 About Us

An Act of Parliament (CAP 64:01) established Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS) as an independent National Society on March 1st 1968. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recognized the National Society in February 1970. It was admitted into the League of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1971.

BRCS is a voluntary AID organization auxiliary to the government of Botswana. Like any Red Cross/Red Crescent National Society worldwide, BRCS activities are guided by the Seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement.

Current programmes of the society are the Dissemination of Information on the Movement’s Fundamental Principles and BRCS Activities, Tracing, HIV/AIDS Peer Education Project, In-and out-of-school-based youth programs, Disaster Response and Disaster Preparedness, First Aid Training, Community-Based Rehabilitation and Branch Development.

Our mission

Botswana Red Cross Society is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose core mission is to identify, prevent and alleviate human suffering and foster human dignities in all communities.

The mission is based on the Geneva Conventions - the “right of humanitarian initiative”, - and the seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

If you want to know more about this argument, go to the International Red Cross page.
